Lavender Lens: Queer Movie Night

Lavender Lens Queer Movie Night was founded in 2023 in Athens, GA, out of a desire to create a space where queer audiences could come together to watch and celebrate queer media—films created by and for queer filmmakers. Initially focused on showcasing works by lesbian filmmakers, the event has grown to include films from a diverse range of queer voices.

What began as a bi-weekly event at ATHICA (Athens Institute for Contemporary Art) has since moved to Atlanta, GA, where it is now hosted at The Supermarket by The Bakery. As part of my commitment to supporting queer creators, I handle all the licensing for the films shown, ensuring that these talented filmmakers are properly supported.

The goal of Lavender Lens is to raise awareness about the importance of supporting queer films made by queer filmmakers. It’s not just about appreciating the work—it’s also about fostering meaningful discussions after the screenings, encouraging both critique and celebration. These conversations are vital for pushing the boundaries of queer cinema, striving for greater diversity and better representation in the media we consume.
